Flight Nine’s Mission: To help teach character and leadership, while improving team building skills and life skills through sport and community engagement.
To improve the lives of underprivileged youth by providing education through scholarships, and using sports, particularly basketball as a way to get communities involved.
Who We Are:
Flight Nine Academy is the vision of former NBA player George Lynch. Developing his passion for basketball and community engagement first began for Lynch under legendary coach UNC-Chapel Hill coach, Dean Smith. He cultivated his passion to give back through his years of playing on teams such as the Lakers, 76ers, and Hornets. Through Flight Nine, Lynch has helped mentor, support and raise money for student-athletes for over a decade. From basketball camps and clinics to assisting with financial support for youth basketball programs and scholarships, Flight Nine’s efforts have propelled thousands of young talents to seek higher levels, crystallize their visions and excel in competitive sports.
How Sports Help Student-Athletes:
Learning the rules and techniques of sports and training for a purpose can give student-athletes self-discipline that they can employ both on and off the field.
Sports empower student-athletes to know that working hard helps them to achieve life goals.
Sports such as basketball teach student-athletes to trust and rely on others to achieve common goals, value everyone's individual strengths and put collective needs before individual wants.
Taking part in sports can greatly improve student-athlete's sense of self-worth.
Competitive sports teaches student-athletes to accept personal responsibility while working in a team setting, a foundation that can benefit them for life.
